Retirement Permit
To apply for the retired persons permit, you must provide evidence that you are financially secure, in the form of a lifelong pension or proof that you are receiving income of not less than R20 000 per month if however you are married you and your spouse would need R40 000. You can apply for either a temporary residence permit or a permanent residence permit if you are eligible in the criteria provided from The Department of Home Affairs. The temporary permit is granted for the lengthy duration for four years and can be renewed.
Permanent resident permits give you the same rights and privileges as those with South African citizenship, with a few key exceptions, most notably the right to vote. Although in both cases, South African Retired Persons Permits are based upon financial criteria and unlike a South African Work Permit, no prior job offer needs to be in place before an application can be made. The great thing about having a retired persons permit is that there are no age restrictions for you to apply as long as you have got that financial requirement you may apply, The Department of Home Affairs can issue your permit that you can work as long as you fall under their Terms and Conditions.
