Interest Rate remains unchanged!

The South African Reserve Bank left its repo rate unchanged at 5.5% on Thursday as expected, with concerns about a slowing economy off-setting the pressures from inflation, which is likely to stay outside its target band for longer than previously expected.

New President sworn in - 27th Sep 2008

South Africas new president, Kgalema Motlanthe, has been sworn in. Within the first hour he duly announced his new cabinet, which immediately restored confidence and assured stability due to the fact that Trevor Manuel was appointed as Minister of Finance and the Minister of Health, Tshabalala Msimang was replaced by Barbara Hogan. In the wake of these events the Rand gained nearly 3%.
