United Kingdom Short-Term Study Visa

United Kingdom Short-Term Study Visa

A short-term study visa is granted for a period of 6 – 11 months.
The visa only allows you to study English in the UK.
No other courses are permitted.

United Kingdom Short-term Study Visa Requirements, Forms & Documentation:

Qualifying requirements
  • You must be 16 years or older to apply for a short-term study visa
  • You must prove that you are accepted for an English course with no other subjects. The length of the course can be up to 11 months
  • The course must be at an accredited institution
  • You must prove that you have enough money to support yourself or that relatives and friends can support you for the duration of your stay in the UK
  • You must prove that you can pay for your return or onward journey

If you are under 18 years old:

  • Your stay and travel to the UK must be pre-arranged
  • You must have the consent of your parent or guardian to study in the UK

Forms and documents required

When you apply for a short-term study visa, you must provide the following forms and documents:
  • A valid passport with a blank page for your visa
  • Evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay in the UK
  • Accommodation details and travel plans
  • Proof you’ve paid the fees for the course or that you have enough money to pay the costs for the course
  • Additional forms and documents required include the following:
    • Tuberculosis test results, if applicable to your home country or country of permanent residence
    • If you are under the age of 18, you must provide the contact details of at least one parent or guardian in your home country
    • Documents that aren’t in English must be translated by a UK-certified translator
    • If you are under the age of 18 and travelling alone, you need to provide the following:
  • Written consent from both parents or one parent or legal guardian if they are fully responsible for you. It must confirm they consent to your visa application, travel to the UK, and your stay in the country.
  • They also need to provide proof that you have somewhere suitable to live during your stay in the UK. This includes; the name and date of birth of the person you’re staying with, the address where you will be living, and details of the relationship between you and the person who is looking after you.
  • If you are under the age of 18 and travelling with an adult, you must identify them during your visa application. You can identify up to two adults and need at least one of them to travel with you.
  • How long can you stay in the UK?

    The short-term study visa allows you to stay in the UK for the duration of your course, plus 30 days, provided the period doesn’t exceed 11 months.

    The UK short-term study visa costs £200.
    However, there is a healthcare surcharge which costs around £470.

    The short-term UK study visa doesn’t provide a path that enables students to emigrate permanently to the United Kingdom.

    United Kingdom Child Student Visa

    United Kingdom Child Student Visa

    The UK child student visa is for children between four and 17 years old. It applies to children who are going to study at an independent school in the United Kingdom.

    • Confirmation of Acceptance Studies (CAS). You’ll get your CAS from your educational institution once you’ve been officially offered a place
    • Proof you have sufficient funds to support yourself in the UK and to pay for your education
    • Proof of consent from your parents or legal guardian to study in the UK

    When to apply for the child student visa?

    If you live outside the UK, you can apply for the visa up to six months before your course or term starts.
    Turnaround time is usually three weeks.

    If you live in the UK, you can apply for a student visa up to three months before your course or term starts.
    Turnaround time is usually eight weeks.

    Note: Your current visa must be valid until at least 28 days before your course or term starts.

    How long can you stay in the UK?

    • Children under 16 years old can stay for up to six years and an additional four months
    • Children aged 16 and 17 can stay for up to three years and an additional four months
    • Children can arrive in the UK up to one month before the course or term starts

    The fees for the child student visa are £363; however, there is a healthcare surcharge.

    Does the child student visa allow you to work in the UK?

    Only students who are 16 and 17 years old are allowed to work in the United Kingdom.
    While school is in, these students can work part-time for up to 10 hours per week.

    Students can work full-time during vacations.
    Students are allowed to work on an internship provided it doesn’t make up more than 50% of the course.

    • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
    • An ATAS certificate if your course or nationality requires it
    • If you’re under 18, you need written consent from your parent or guardian
    • If you’re under 18, you need proof of your relationship with your parent or guardian
    • Tuberculosis test results, if applicable to your home country or country of permanent residence
    • Written consent for your application from your financial sponsor, if applicable
