Introduction
We are proud to announce that Andreas Krensel, the Managing Owner of IBN Immigration Solutions, has been officially offered a seat as Independent Deputy Chairperson and member of South Africa’s Immigration Advisory Board.
Background
The Immigration Advisory Board (IAB) is established under Section 7 of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 as a consultative body to advise the Minister of Home Affairs on matters relating to immigration policy, strategy, and implementation. While the Act outlines its structure and purpose, the Board has not consistently been active under previous administrations. Notably, Andreas’s appointment follows a renewed commitment to good governance and expert consultation under the leadership of Minister Leon Schreiber, marking a significant reactivation of the Board’s mandate for the first time in several years.
This Board plays a vital role in shaping the future of South Africa’s immigration framework, offering insight into the country’s national interest, economic imperatives, and global competitiveness. It advises on the development of immigration regulations, the formulation of visa categories, and the alignment of immigration strategies with the Department’s broader goals.
Comments and Commitments
Andreas Krensel brings to this role more than two decades of legal and practical immigration expertise across Southern Africa, as well as a career dedicated to providing clients, corporate and private, with clear, transparent guidance on navigating complex immigration systems. His deep understanding of both South African and international immigration systems, coupled with years of practical engagement with government processes, makes his appointment particularly timely.
“It’s an honour to have the opportunity to make even a small contribution to the immigration system. For 10 years, I submitted ideas and suggestions for potential improvements to various DHA ministers and their offices. Through grit and determination, this moment feels like proof that if you believe in the good, sometimes something good comes out of it,” mentioned Andreas.
Looking to the Future
Andreas has previously worked with Mr Mavuso Msimang, who now chairs the Immigration Advisory Board, and is enthusiastic about continuing their collaboration in this new capacity. Their shared experience and mutual respect signal a strong, forward-thinking foundation for the Board’s work ahead.
As Minister Schreiber puts it, “The IAB is not only composed of senior public servants from various relevant departments, but also of subject matter experts who collectively have more than 100 years of experience in immigration and public policy between them.”
This appointment is a meaningful recognition of Andreas’s expertise and passion for immigration law, and we are confident that his voice on the Board will contribute positively to the evolution of immigration policy in South Africa.
“I look forward to working with other experts and with the Department. Being a member of Envoy Global, I hope we can bring in international knowledge and best practices that have helped other countries improve their immigration systems.”
