South Africa

Department of Home Affairs Phoning Permanent Residence Permit Applicants

The Department of Home Affairs has been calling many Permanent Residence Permit applicants and their spouses in the last two weeks to confirm application details. We have had 9 clients in the last fortnight get calls from the DHA who said they were in the process of finalising their PR Permit applications.

Please look out for any calls, and return any missed calls you receive from Pretoria.

Nigeria

Nigeria Introduces ‘Brown Card’ for Permanent Residency

The ‘Brown Card‘ has been recently introduced by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a new legal means for eligible foreign nationals to obtain permanent residency.

During a special ceremony at the Nigeria Correctional Service Headquarters, 385 deserving adult foreign nationals from various countries were granted Nigerian Citizenship through this initiative.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, announced the official launch of Nigeria’s Brown Card, following its approval by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Executive Council.

Botswana

Dual Citizenship Now Possible

Over the past ten years, a considerable number of Batswana have renounced their citizenship due to the government’s implementation of anti-dual citizenship legislation.

Following this, the Republic of Botswana has issued a Press Release stating that Dual Citizenship is now possible, and that Botswana nationals will not lose their citizenship if they aquire citizenship from another country.
