RE OPENING OF INTERNATIONAL TRAVELS DURING THE ALERT LEVEL 1 OF THE NATIONAL LOCKDOWN

UK IS LISTED AS A HIGH RISK COUNTRY :

  1. Any person who wishes to undertake a business travel (Section 11(2) & Business meetings) into South Africa, may with effect from 01 October 2020, in writing , apply to the Minister of Home Affairs and demonstrate reasons for their request to enter the Republic for business purposes during the period of the national state of disaster.

Such application must be directed by applicant to email Covid19BusinessTravel@dha.gov.za and supported by:

  • A copy of passport and/or temporary residence visa;
  • Proof of business activities to be undertaken in the Republic
  • Proof of travel itinerary; and
  • Proof of address of accommodation in the Republic.
  1. Any person who wishes to travel for the purposes of medical treatment/bereavement/hospitalisation of family members residing in RSA must send the request directly covid19exceptions@dha.gov.za supported by:
  • A copy of passport and/or temporary residence visa:
  • Motivation and proof of why the travel is essential
  • Proof of address in South Africa

Once the approval is received, UK passport holders may travel.  UK visa exemptions have now been re-instated, so no visa is required from UK passport holders. Those that require visas must make an appointment with VFS Global to lodge the application.

  1. Applications for long stay visas may be submitted at VFS Global (by appointment), these includes:
  • Study Visa
  • Research Visa
  • Relative Visa
  • Exchange Visa
  • Critical Skills Visa
  • General Work Visa
  • Intra Company Visa
  • Retired Visa
  • Business Visa
  1. People wishing to travel for a holiday/leisure activities, are presently not permitted.

NB: Anyone travelling to South Africa will be required to produce a paper copy of a negative COVID-19 test results not older than 72 hours from the time of departure from country of Origin to South Africa. This PCR test that is not older than 72 hours must have been conducted by a certified medical practitioner and should have the details (including name, official stamp and signature) of the practitioner who conducted such test.
