Business visa holders can enter the Ivory Coast and perform various activities, but their stay must be at most 90 consecutive days.

Business visa holders can attend conferences, seminars, and meetings in the Ivory Coast, undergo training, and participate in any productive activity that doesn’t exceed 90 days. It allows third-site maintenance, project work, and offshore work for up to 90 days.

An Ivorian tourist visa allows any leisure activities and family visits in the Ivory Coast for up to 90 consecutive days. The tourist visa includes holidaymakers, as well as family, friends, and dependents who want to visit work permit holders or Ivorian Coast citizens. Ivory Coast Work Permit

Ivorian work permits are for those who want to work in the Ivory Coast for at least three months. The work permit is linked to a specific job and is issued to all foreign employees and trainees. It is renewable once a year.

Short-term employment is not regulated and falls under the business visitor’s visa.

If you intend to work in the country for more than 90 days, you’ll need a work and residence permit.

The long-term work authorisation in the Ivory Coast is issued to those who have been offered a fixed term or permanent employment. The administration that issues work permits in the Ivory Costs is the Agence Emploi Jeunes (AEJ).

Spouses and children can accompany the primary visa holder. Life partners are eligible for a dependent visa. A certificate of care (Attestation de Prise en Charge) is required for residence approval.

Ivory Coast Residence Permit

Ivory Coast Residence Permit

A residence permit is mandatory for everyone who intends to stay in Côte d’Ivoire for more than three months. Work permit holders need a residence permit. Dependents and students must also have a residence permit for long-term stays. This Ivorian permit is valid for one year.

Ivory Coast General Documentation Requirements

Those older than 18 must obtain an Ivorian Police Record and Certificate of Residence for the residence permit application.

Certifications, police records, and certificates of residence documents cannot be older than three months from the date of submission. All documents must be translated into French.

You also need a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.

How to Apply for an Ivory Coast Visa or Permit

Specific visa applications have different steps you must follow to approve your submission.

The Ivorian immigration process is fragmented, partly because several institutions are involved. As a result, you must go through layers of submissions to get approval for the necessary permits.

Generally, you need an Ivorian police clearance certificate and a residence certificate which must not be older than three months, at the residence authorisation stage.

Place of submission

If you’re from a visa-restricted country, you must apply at the nearest Ivorian Embassy in your country of origin or permanent residence. You can only submit your application after you’ve received the required clearance from the Ministry of Interior in the Ivory Coast.

You must submit applications for work authorisation from within the country to the AEJ in Ivory Coast.

You must submit applications for residence authorisation in person to ONI (Office Nationale Identification).

Which government bodies are involved?

There are two authorities involved during the immigration process. The Agence Emploi Jeunes (AEJ) is responsible for issuing work permits, and the National Identification Office is responsible for issuing residence permits.

ECOWAS nationals don’t need a visa. Others may obtain an E-Visa online.

There would be only a Long-term category to apply for work authorisation (work card) in Ivory Coast. Allowed to commence work in terms of a Business Visa but only for up to 3 months, during which time Work and Residence Card applications to be submitted. Estimate Processing time would be 2 – 4 weeks.

A foreign national must obtain an Ivorian Medical Certificate to apply for the Work Card.

The Ivory Coast Work Permit is valid for up to one year and can be renewed for further periods up to a year.

The validity is up to a maximum duration of 1 year and can be renewed for further periods of up to 1 year.

A Residence Authorisation can be obtained in-country upon obtaining the Work Card. The applicant should be in-country for at least 3 months. An original Birth Certificates must be presented when applying for a Residence Card. Processing time would be approximately 15 days and can be valid for up to 5 years.

Yes, however, this is dependent on the renewal of the Work Permit.
