South Africa
Landmark Court Case Won
Following the court case “Tereza Rayment and Others v Minister of Home Affairs and Others”, changes have been made to the South African Spousal and Relatives Visa, regarding the separation of foreign parents of a South African child.
Work Permit Overhaul
An overhaul to the Work Permit System in South Africa has been signed by Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi over the last 24 hours (Updated on 13:40am on 14 December)
These changes to South African immigration law will be gazetted for public comment in the next few days.
It is sincerely hoped that this will include some form of Digital Nomad Visa, after our CEO suggested it to minister in March 2020.

Kenya
Kenya’s Open Door Policy: Boom or Bust for Business?
President Ruto’s bold move to scrap visas for all visitors in 2024 promises a tourism boom and economic growth. Businesses anticipate increased demand, investment, and brand awareness. However, challenges loom.
Visitors to Kenya will need to obtain an electronic travel authorisation, in theory streamlining the entry process.
“Beginning January 2024, Kenya will be a visa-free country. It shall no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the globe to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya,” said Kenyan President Ruto.
Kenya must tackle security concerns, implement robust visitor registration, and prioritize public health. Success hinges on balancing these hurdles with business needs, creating a thriving environment for both tourism and local enterprises. This gamble could unlock a golden age for Kenya, but only if navigated with careful planning and collaboration.
Zimbabwe
ZEP Extended to 29 November 2025
In recent news, an extension has been granted for Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders, providing them with an opportunity to apply for waivers and work permits.
The initial deadline, set for the end of June 2024, has been extended until the 29th of November 2025. By granting more time, the aim is to allow ZEP holders that have not attempted to apply for a waiver or visa more time to do so.
Lesotho
Lesotho Also Granted an Extension to November 2025
The Lesotho Exemption Permit (LEP) has been extended from its original 31 December 2023 to 29 November 2025.
Permit holders will have the privilege to engage in work, job-seeking activities, and business endeavors. However, they will not be eligible to apply for permanent resident status, and these new permits will not be subject to renewal.
Furthermore, permit holders will not be able to alter their immigration status while in the country and are required to disclose or register all their minor children born and residing in South Africa.
