Reopening of Trusted Employer Scheme Applications

The Department of Home Affairs has announced that it will reopen the Trusted Employer Scheme for applications from corporations starting at the end of May 2024.

This scheme has previously provided accepted companies with faster visa processing times, increased efficiency in appeals and waivers, streamlined visa procedures, the removal of certain visa stipulations, and additional benefits.

Kenya Introduces Greatly Increased Immigration Fees

In November last year, the Kenyan government suggested raised fees for immigration and citizenship services, provoking a significant public outcry. Responding to this, the Interior Cabinet Secretary initially revoked the hike to consider public sentiment; however, the revised fees have now been enforced.

This development is quite disheartening for Kenya—there’s an ongoing concern that these substantial fee increases, coupled with frequent malfunctions of their online visa portal (eFNS), are intentionally making immigration less accessible.
